The Reaper turns out to be the disciple Koro-sensei once trained in the arts of assassination, only to be betrayed by him. Using a special suit that ensnares the tentacles and taking students hostage to gain the upper hand, the Reaper drives Koro-sensei into a corner, until E-Class fights back as one. A reckless, self-sacrificing strike from Nagisa opens the breach, and Koro-sensei settles the score with his former pupil. Through this battle, the core mystery of why Koro-sensei became a being capable of destroying Earth, and why he chose to stand at E-Class's blackboard, begins to unravel in the volumes ahead. The students start to glimpse who their target was back when he was still human.
