Lum gets her hands on a matching pair of hanten jackets with a built-in matchmaking charm: dress the one you love in it and your feelings will come true. She's thrilled at the chance to wear the pair with Ataru, but the incorrigible playboy snatches the jackets to share them with every other girl in town instead. Even a magic charm can't cure Ataru's wandering eye, and soon Mendou, Shinobu and Sakura are all dragged into the chaos. Volume 16 delivers Rumiko Takahashi's slapstick alien romcom at its warm, deranged best.

A jealousy-crazed Lum lets her lightning rip across Tomobiki, and the fight over the jackets erupts into an all-out brawl. In the end Lum forces the hanten onto Ataru herself to make her feelings come true, only for him to instantly ogle another girl and ruin it. Once again the two end the volume no closer than before, Lum's devotion and Ataru's hopelessness playing off each other in that lovable, quintessential way.
