The fire-damaged Oryol can no longer supply enough oxygen to bring every crew member back to Earth. There is only one way out: someone must go outside, leap across open space, and transfer to the other return craft, the Soyuz. The brothers Mutta and Hibito are the ones who step forward for that suicidal task. Beyond the tether waits the pitch-black weightlessness stretching between two ships.
