To save the dying Komatsu, Toriko and his companions pour every ounce of strength into tearing the treasure ingredient "Pair" from the body of the Monkey King Bambina. Though they seize a hint to obtaining Pair hidden within the king's martial art, "Monk Bout," the Monkey King only grows endlessly more powerful the more he fights, driving Toriko once again into a corner. But the king grows stronger the more he battles, so a head-on contest can never reach a conclusion. The key lies not in taking Pair by force but in the idea of making the Monkey King "acknowledge" him and share it, and Toriko, battered and bleeding, edges toward that state of mind. At the same time Komatsu's crisis advances, and the time limit on his life pushes the tension to its extreme. Serving as the run-up to the climax of the battle for Pair, this volume sets the stage for the next volume's resolution and Komatsu's rescue.
