The prefectural championship league heats up as Shohoku faces the reigning kings, Kainan. With a minute and a half left in the first half and captain Akagi sidelined by injury, the team seemed doomed—until Kaede Rukawa takes over, scoring at will and clawing a double-digit deficit back down to just five points. Kainan pushes, Shohoku chases, and the gym holds its breath. Hanamichi Sakuragi, too, starts hunting for a way to matter on the court against one of the strongest schools in the nation.

Slam Dunk Vol. 11 spoilers
⚠️ Spoilers ahead.
Rukawa's scoring surge drags the gap to a nail-biting margin, and a Shohoku comeback suddenly feels possible. But Kainan stays ice-cold: ace Shinichi Maki controls the tempo while sharpshooter Jin drills perimeter shots to keep the lead. Sakuragi throws his body around under the basket in Akagi's absence, dominating the boards, yet Kainan's experience shows in the clutch. Shohoku claws to within striking distance but can't break the champions, falling just short and taking their first league loss—while Sakuragi visibly sheds his "amateur" skin.
