Hideo Suzuki is a 35-year-old manga assistant scraping by in Tokyo, plagued by hallucinations and a crushing sense of inadequacy. He clings to his licensed shotgun, nicknamed Sadao, and to his fraying relationship with his girlfriend Miho. This opening volume patiently builds dread out of the mundane: deadlines, self-doubt, and awkward silences, while unsettling reports of people biting people ripple through the city.
