Kagura's father, Umibozu, arrives on Earth to take his daughter back to their home planet. On top of that, a mysterious giant creature appears in town, and the Yorozuya faces a real crossroads — could this be the end of the whole outfit? Meanwhile the usual slapstick rolls on: a heroine free-for-all with the women all tangled up, a terrifying new next-door neighbor, and an episode where the Shinsengumi tail a date. Serious drama and pure comedy sit side by side in Volume 8 of Hideaki Sorachi's Edo-era sci-fi comedy.

Gin Tama Vol. 8 spoilers
⚠️ Spoilers ahead.
Umibozu is the greatest Yato hunter in the universe and a clumsy father who has fought endlessly to protect his family. He wants Kagura back on their planet out of parental fear that Earth will drag her into danger. But Gintoki and Shinpachi put their bodies on the line to insist that the Yorozuya is now where Kagura belongs, and father and daughter finally clash with their true feelings. In the end Umibozu accepts her will and leaves. A standout episode that affirms both blood family and chosen family, and a crucial launch point toward the later Yato arc and Kamui's debut.
