Dragged along by Okita, Gintoki finds himself inside Rengokukan, an underground fighting arena where samurai are forced to duel to the death for the sake of illegal gambling. When someone asks him to bring the criminal syndicate behind it down, Gintoki is pulled straight into the tournament bracket. Around this darker arc, the usual Yorozuya chaos rolls on: a dangerous mushroom hunt, another round of Hasegawa's endless misfortune, and a shady cult leader.
