Ikumatsu, the owner of the tavern Hokutoshinken, has a regular customer she keeps waiting for to fulfill a promise she made with her late husband. After his death, that customer simply stopped coming by, so Katsura and Gin set out to find him, only to uncover an identity none of them expected. A quietly moving search story where human warmth intertwines with the pasts of the Joui patriots. Also included are lighter gags like the Shinsengumi versus Mimawarigumi turf war and the Yorozuya's wardrobe troubles.

Gin Tama Vol. 49 spoilers
⚠️ Spoilers ahead.
The regular Ikumatsu waited for turns out to be someone deeply connected to Katsura through the Joui War, and behind the promise about her husband's death and the tavern's survival lies a heavy past. Torn between loyalty to a comrade and consideration for Ikumatsu, Katsura tracks the man down. The ending mixes the sentiment of reunion with the resolve of parting, leaving a quiet afterglow in an otherwise gag-heavy volume. The friction between the Shinsengumi and Mimawarigumi is planted as foreshadowing for a major political upheaval to come.
