In the Bell Tree Express arc, Bourbon's identity is confirmed as Toru Amuro, alias Rei Furuya. To foil the Organization's trap for Haibara, Conan teams up with Subaru Okiya, who is really the very-much-alive Shuichi Akai, and exploits Akai's disguise gambit. Their elaborate ruse convinces the Organization that Akai died aboard the train, letting Conan's side gain the upper hand. It is the climax of the Bourbon arc and the decisive reveal of Akai's survival.
