Akai's shooting and fiery "death" turn out to be an elaborate ruse he, Conan, and Kir (Rena Mizunashi) staged to deceive the Organization. The burned body is someone else; Akai fakes his death and slips underground, laying the groundwork to later disguise himself as Subaru Okiya. This single move clears the Organization's suspicion of Kir and grants Akai freedom to operate. In the later Sengoku-themed cases, Conan dismantles the physical contradictions of armored-warrior and warcraft tricks with mechanics.
